Berkshire Hathaway's Holdings
Berkshire's Current Stock Holdings
These spreadsheets have been converted to PDF Adobe Acrobat to view. The spread sheets cover the period from December 31, 1998 to December 31, 2008, and show all positions that have been covered by the 13Fs Berkshire has filed with the SEC to list its stock holdings during this period.
For 2008 the table has been divided into three parts. The first part with the orange background comes from the list that Buffett gave in his Chairman’s Letter. I start with this list because it includes some foreign positions that are not on the 13f because they are not subject to registration with the SEC. Also some of the domestic positions show larger positions than appear on the 13f. To Buffett’s list I have added Burlington Northern and Moody’s as they were shown in the 13f.
In the second section with the blue background are what, in my opinion are the smaller positions that Buffett is responsible for. Most of these have been grandfathered in, as they are stocks that have been around a long time such as Costco, and Nike, which have been partially liquidated over the years. Ameriprise is included because it was a spin-off from American Express, and Ingersoll Rand because position is the result of Buffett’s purchase of American Standard.
In the third section with the brown background, are what I believe are Lou Simpsons ideas. This is my guess only, and there is no guarantee that it is 100% correct. The list is based on Buffett’s statement at the annual meeting several years ago that new positions of less than $200 million are not his, and that Lou runs a portfolio of about 2 billion at GEICO. He went on to say that he (Buffett) will not look at anything that he cannot put at least $2 billion into.
